This is a pretty good description of the Emigrant Lake hike. I had the same impression last year. Someone goofed on the mileage marker at the turnoff to Kirkwood. It's only about a mile to Emigrant Lake from that point. Nice hike. It might come close to a tie with Jamison Lake as my favorite, but Jamison still beats it. Drive five miles past Carson Pass on Highway 88 to Caples Lake. The hike along Caples Lake is two miles--about half the hike one way to Emigrant Lake. Another mile brings you to a cutoff to Kirkwood Meadows. Keep going straight to Emigrant Lake. ( Read more... )
